                    Thank-you!

Even though we have 5 more months left in this school year, we would like you to strongly consider joining the board for the next school year.  It's such a great experience, and a wonderful way to find out what is happening in your child's life at school.  Please email us if you are interested, or have any questions regarding the positions.

On an additional note, your PTSA received the following information from your local PTSA Council regarding possible funding cuts to education. Please read the information and respond as you feel necessary.

Hello Fellow Presidents and Leg Chairs,   In a clear win for children, the Washington State Supreme Court ruled unanimously this week that the state was violating its constitutional paramount duty to amply fund K-12 education. The ruling However, this is not necessarily a done deal.  We have a huge opportunity this session because of the verdict in the lawsuit.  There is a lot of "grayness" in the verdict.  Some attorneys think that the verdict means that cuts to education can still happen.  Other attorneys think that the verdict means that cuts can't happen.   Our legislators will need to hear from us. They need our help figuring out what to do about the verdict. They need to know that we support them funding education.  They need our help.
We need more then the "usual" people speaking up.  Right now, our legislators regularly tell us that they hear more from just about everybody more then they do from education advocates.  I've been told by different legislators that the pet advocates contact them more then education advocates.  I've been told that the pornography advocates contact them more then education advocates.
A fast and simple way for you to make your voice heard and let our legislators know that it is time to find a stable, adequate source of revenue to meet the needs of schoolchildren is to sign the petition in this link.  http://bit.ly/fundednow   This petition was created by the League of Education Voters.  WSPTA and LEV are not actual partners, however we will often partner with other organizations like LEV when we have a common message so we can provide a bigger, stronger, and unified voice to our legislators.  By signing this petition you will in no way be joining LEV.  In a few weeks LEV will contact everyone who signed the petition and ask if they want to be added to their mailing list.  Anyone who opts out will not be contacted by LEV again.   Please take a few seconds to sign this petition and forward it to your local unit members as well as friends and family.  We truly need every voice we can get to speak up at this critical time. http://bit.ly/fundednow   Thanks, Cathy Jo Renner
