PTSA started as an advocacy organization. Every person who has ever spoken up on an issue is a child advocate. You can make a difference for your child and for every child in this State by periodically speaking up on legislative issues – all it takes is five to ten minutes of your time four or five times a year.

The 2010 WSPTA Legislative Assembly Results Are In! Each year PTSA members work with educators, administrators, policymakers, and government officials to promote effective legislative and public policy changes that benefit our children. To help in this effort, the WSPTA actively works in Olympia to help advocate for the issues you, the PTSA membership deem to be the most important.
The annual WSPTA Legislative Assembly is when and where PTSA members from around the state gather to debate and prioritize which issues will be placed on the WSPTA Legislative Platform with the top 6 getting the highest priority. This year's Legislative Assembly was held on October 8th and 9th, and the following issues were placed on the platform:
1st place: Following up on Education Reform Efforts 2nd place: Math and Science Education 3rd place: Literacy Instruction 4th place: Teacher Reduction in Force 5th place: Fund Education First 6th place: New Model for Teacher Compensation 7th place: School Breakfast and Lunch Programs 8th place: Physical Education and Health If you would like more information on any of these issues, they can be found in the Legislative Issues Guide here, or contact Betsy Evensen (betsyevensen@hotmail.com).
